2027 MLB Draft - Top 150 High School Prospects

Dylan Seward is one of the most exciting, explosive players in the 2027 Draft. His tools are seemingly limitless.

A switch-hitter, Seward has traits to fall in love with from both sides of the plate. As a righty, it's tighter turns with a flatter path, a keen ability to backspin the baseball with strength behind the ball. He's short into the zone and long through it; a picturesque swing. From the left side there's a bit more trunk tilt and emphasis for loft, a steeper plane into the zone that can limit his opposite field game power. Seward loses very little bat speed batting left handed and projects to slug from both sides. Seward is going to grow into more and more power with his athletic frame and wiry levers. It's already solid average power projection. There's always been some swing and miss in Seward's game from both sides of the plate, most notably outside of the zone. He's not a guy that has expanded the zone at unhealthy clips, but when he's faced advanced arms that have shown the ability to get ahead with bigger stuff, he can be susceptible when he's forced to protect, especially against spin. Seward's has always shown the ability to keep his strikeouts in check. He may not be a plus hit tool profile, but there's enough here to believe he'll eventually blossom into an above average hitter at worst.

The intrigue is just as tantalizing on the bases and in the field. A plus defender at the shortstop position, Seward has above-average arm strength befitting of a player expected to handle the left side of the dirt. Seward is always under control with the glove. His hands, footwork and actions all work in collaboration with decisive, efficient movement patterns when fielding the ball. His direction and internal clock stand out. To top off the profile, Seward is a 80-grade runner who can change the game with his speed.

This is a reasonably complete profile with star upside. Seward has the tools to hit at the top of a lineup or right in the middle of it. He's an impact defender with the chance to go to several all-star games as a professional.

It should come as no surprise that Marek Houston's little brother, Graham, carries the same level of polish and maturity that made his brother a high pick in 2025. While he doesn't possess the same long frame that his older brother does, Graham is a more accomplished and finished product at this same stage than was Marek.

Houston is a switch-hitting shortstop with the ability to continue hitting from both sides up the ladder. It's more of a slashing hack from the left side with impact into the gaps. Houston has super-quick hands and the luxury of making late swing decisions. It's such a simple, controlled swing with plus bat to ball skills and real hit tool projection. From the right side there's a bit more loft and bat speed and the potential for average raw power. Houston will lean on the ball a bit harder as a right-handed hitter and is capable of losing them over the fence every now and again. This is by no means slugging projection, but rather a solid, balanced offensive profile with polish and floor. A really good looking hitter.

Houston is a better glove than his older brother was at this same stage. The lateral mobility and range stands out. His athleticism affords him the ability of making most plays moving to his left and right. It's above-average arm strength that may eventually reach plus. Houston glides on the dirt and has a quick first step. He's got some bounce to his game with above average foot speed. The whole profile could eventually turn itself into a plus defender when all is said and done.

Houston doesn't have the physicality or size to suggest he's going to make his money in the slugging department. But the rest of his profile is so advanced that projecting a Role 50 player isn't terribly difficult.

Extremely young for the class with burgeoning tools, Butler is a scout favorite in the state of Georgia for 2027.

The bat-to-ball skills and hitterish traits stand out. It's an athletic stance with a wide base, a simple load and move forward, consistently on time. Butler doesn't sell out for power and instead leans on his hit tool to put the game in motion. He uses the whole field and breaks out of the box quick, often turning singles into doubles. It's an exceptionally smooth swing. Scouts look for offensive players that look like hitters, players that look like they actively want to hit. That's Malachi Butler.

Power isn't a big part of Butler's game at this stage, but his size and age suggest he may grow into some. He'll ambush the occasional pitch to his pull-side and will flash average bat speed now and again. He projects a high-average, high-on base polished hitter who does the little things well. If Butler grows into more strength and shifts to third base, the raw power could jump.

Defensively, Butler shines. It's above-average defensive traits and actions with the potential for a future plus glove if he doesn't outgrow the position. He shuffles laterally with pace and fluidity. He can make most throws and can throw from multiple angles with arm strength that plays. It's advanced actions and a very natural look for an infielder. Extremely advanced for his age.

Butler will be just 17.8 years old for the Draft playing in a hotbed of talent in Georgia. Some of the highest level upside in the class and a model darling.
