In 2019, the Wake Forest Pitching Lab opened, an eight-figure development center based solely on improving and fine-tuning the Demon Deacons' pitching staff. Combining state-of-the-art technology with biomechanists, coaches, and trainers, Winston-Salem has been the premier destination for arms in college baseball.
This decade, Wake Forest has produced sixteen arms in the draft, including first-rounders Jared Shuster, Ryan Cusick, Rhett Lowder, and Chase Burns. They don’t just pump out pro-caliber arms—the lab also attracts prospective transfers and high school talent. The aforementioned Burns was one of the hottest names in the portal back in 2024, with Michael Massey and Matthew Dallas as other notable lands. In the past three years, Carson Bolemon, Ethan Wachsmann, Ryan Sloan, and Will Hynes were all Wake signees and early-round selections.
After a year of fine pitching performance, the staff blossomed under new pitching coach Eric Niesen.
