Why are we doing this in September? The ink is barely dry on the 2026 class, half of these players haven't taken a fall scrimmage rep, and the lottery balls haven't actually been drawn. Still, it's that time. The 2027 draft order is slowly becoming more clear.

The order below comes from a simulated run of the 2027 Draft Lottery on Tankathon, which shook things up at the top: It was a very consequential simulation for the Detroit, Kansas City, the Mets and Cincinnati. San Francisco (No. 10) and Pittsburgh (No. 17) were ineligible for lottery picks and land where their records put them. The Mets luck out keeping a pick inside of the lottery. Importantly, this mock draft does not take into account penalties that are likely to be absorbed by the Yankees, Dodgers, Phillies and Blue Jays. Their first round picks are likely to slide ten spots due to CBT penalties unless those penalties are eliminated with the new CBA.
The players come straight from the Over-Slot Top 200. Every pick is matched to what that front office has actually done in the first round (or with its first selection) across the last four drafts, 2023 through 2026. Some teams are easier reads. San Diego and Baltimore draft like they're running the same playbook every July. Others, like Kansas City and Washington, have changed voices in the room, and I weighted the newer regimes more heavily. All this being said, every year and every draft is unique. Nothing should be taken as gospel, ever. This does not come with any intel. It's pattern-matching, and it will look silly by April.
The CBA expires in December, and draft rules are on the table. Everything here assumes the current format holds.
