For the first time in its history, the MLB High School All-American game descended upon the Field of Dreams in Dyersville, Iowa last week.
A showcase which produced 19 Draft picks last year, this year’s version once again brought no shortage of talent, with 35 of 40 participants appearing in Over-Slot’s most recent Top 150 High School Draft Prospects.
Not only a showcase for top talent, it’s one of the rare events on the High School calendar with publicly available statcast data. With data collection remaining at a premium in the High School market, this information will eventually find its way into team models and decision making come draft day.
The one-game sample size is as small as it gets, especially factoring in pitchers airing it out for an inning, but even a limited look can provide meaningful evidence. Let’s take a look at some statistical performances which stood out.
