In May, Chayce Formosa's recruitment looked finished. The Liberty junior committed to Cal, a 45-minute drive from the family's Discovery Bay home, and his parents were, in his high school's words, "extremely excited" about that commute. 

Then the summer happened.

By July 6, Formosa was an Arizona commit. By the time Area Codes wrapped in Long Beach, he'd walked out as one of the event's biggest winners, and his name had become a fixture on area scout's phones. That's a dramatic summer. It's also exactly the kind of summer that turns a Northern California hitter into appointment-viewing next spring.
