The Pittsburgh Pirates finally have their next scouting director, and he's coming from within. 

After running the entire 2026 cycle without a dedicated amateur scouting director, the Pirates have hired Justin Newman to lead their domestic draft operation.

Newman has been with the Pirates for a decade, holding seven different titles in that time. He began his career in 2017 as a Baseball Infomation Intern. Newman held multiple quantitative analyst roles over the next seven years before being promoted to Manager of Research and Development. In 2025, Newman was promoted into the Head of Player Analysis before being promoted once more into the Director of Player Analysis.
