In the summer of 2023, as the MLB Draft rolled through its first round without his name being called, Drew Burress picked up the phone. He didn't sulk. Didn't wait around to see where he'd land on Day 2. He called Georgia Tech head coach Danny Hall and associate head coach James Ramsey right there in the middle of the draft and told them he was coming. His father, Andy Burress, remembers the moment simply: "He said, 'I want to be a first rounder.' And I said, 'OK.'"
