Six weeks after it was announced former Pittsburgh Pirates Director of Amateur Scouting Justin Horowitz was leaving the organization for the Washington Nationals, it was announced internally that the organization will not hire any new names to fill the vacant leadership role in the department. Instead, Assistant General Manager Kevan Graves will take over leadership responsibilities with regards to domestic amateur scouting and the 2026 MLB Draft.
Graves is no stranger to the job at hand. Hired as a baseball operations assistant in 2008, he has worked his way up the organizational ladder across nearly a two-decade span getting his hands dirty across several different areas of the organization.
While Horowitz held the Director, Amateur Scouting title during his short stead in Pittsburgh, Graves is said to have had his hands deep in the process of draft operations and amateur scouting oversight while the two worked alongside one another. The …
