On Wednesday, ESPN's Jeff Passan reported the Washington Nationals are finalizing a deal to name Boston Red Sox Senior VP and Assistant GM Paul Toboni as their new head of baseball operations. He replaces the Mike Rizzo, let go in July just a week prior to the MLB Draft.
Toboni, 35, comes with over ten years of experience in baseball operations. He's essentially spent his entire career with the Red Sox, working his way up from being an intern and an area scout, up to the executive leadership roles he's occupied the land handful of years.
Toboni was going to receive a promotion in some form or another this winter. It was heavily reported and speculated he was the favorite to take on the 'General Manger' title under Craig Breslow this winter.
