Georgia Tech catcher Vahn Lackey is the best college catcher in the 2026 class. He's a freak athlete and brings just about every tool a manager could want to a lineup. He was good in 2025, but he's ascended to new heights in 2026.
That said, Vahn Lackey came out of nowhere.
Entering the 2025 season -- his sophomore campaign -- Lackey had never been featured on a single draft board. Not in high school and not a forward-looking college board by any major publication. That's not terribly surprising. High school catchers are not a sought draft demographic and Perfect Game ranked Lackey the No. 256 high school catcher in his class. Perfect Game is by no means the barometer for evaluating draft prospects, but it's good signal for just how hidden his profile was.
