The South Atlantic states are consistently flush with tremendous MLB-quality talent for scouts to sit on. But curiously, James Island (S.C.) shortstop Taj Marchand never got the fanfare some others did in the area the last few years. He might be the best high school player in the country nobody seems to be talking about. 

In late May, Marchand was named the 5A Division 1 Player of the Year in the state of South Carolina. Just weeks later, he helped James Island High School win its second state title in two years. Weeks after that, Marchand was informed he was one of 88 players invited to try out for the Team USA 18u National Team. All this, while playing the most demanding position on the diamond -- shortstop, the position scouted hardest by industry evaluators.

But you won't find Marchand on most prospect lists.
