It's no secret the Colorado Rockies have been a bit of a disaster over the course of the last seven seasons, and that may be cherrypicking a generous timeline. The organization has reached the playoffs just twice in the last 16 seasons and things didn't appear to be heading in a positive direction throughout the 2025 campaign.

Changes were needed. From the top down. 

On October 1, the Rockies announced they had dismissed long-tenured executive and current general manager Bill Schmidt from his post. Schmidt had been with the organization since the 2000 season and was the backbone of its scouting operation for much of his tenure. Schmidt had his fingerprint on names like Nolan Arenado, Trevor Story and Troy Tulowitzki during his stead.
