On Wednesday, the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets swung a trade that sent right-hander Ryan Helsley to the Mets in exchange for right-handed pitching prospects Nate Dohm and Frank Elissalt. The deal also included 20-year-old shortstop Jesus Baez.
It was a big swing for the Mets who look to shore up a bullpen that has been streaky at best in 2025. In time, the trade may pay dividends to the Cardinals, an organization looking to bolster its pitching future on the farm.
Dohm, 23, was a third round pick by the Mets in 2024. He struggled to stay healthy throughout spurts of his collegiate career at Ball State and Mississippi State. When he was on the mound he was dominant. Dohm racked up 142 strikeouts across 112.1 innings at the college level. He ranked as the No. 173 prospect in the 2024 Draft at Over-Slot.
