JSerra (Ca.) outfielder Blake Bowen has turned a corner. After adding 15 pounds of muscle over the last calendar year, Bowen’s ultra-physical strength and premium frame are paying dividends this summer. A muscled-up 6-foot-3-inch, 215-pound thumper, Bowen is making a case to be considered one of the top high school hitters in the class.

It hasn’t always come this easy for Bowen. Last summer as a rising junior, Bowen posted a .182/.364/.212 line with just one extra-base hit across 16 games in more premium tournament and showcase settings. His groundball rate sat north of 50 percent and a 27 percent strikeout rate stymied his production.

Bowen is being more aggressive early in counts this summer, specifically when he gets a pitch elevated in the zone. He’s getting to his pull-side with more frequency, and the results are bearing better fruit.
